Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 31, 2024

Kerla, LLC ("we", "us", or "our") is committed to protecting the privacy of users of our Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) web application ("Service"). This Privacy Policy applies to all users and outlines our practices regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of information that we receive through the Service and Google API Services.

By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

1. Information Collection and Use

We collect information provided by schools and obtained through Google API Services. This includes:

We use this information solely to provide and improve our Service, ensuring relevance to user-facing features. This information is not used for marketing or advertising purposes.

2. Information Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell or rent school data to third parties. Data is shared with third parties only when necessary for Service operation, such as storing data in cloud databases through Microsoft Azure, or when required by law. All third-party service providers must protect the confidentiality and security of the data and comply with applicable data protection laws.

3. Security

We implement reasonable precautions to safeguard the security of school data, including the use of Transport Layer Security (TLS) encryption to secure data transmission. Although we strive to protect user information, we acknowledge that no method of electronic transmission or storage is entirely secure.

4. Data Retention

Kerla, LLC retains school data only as long as necessary to provide the Service or comply with legal obligations. Afterward, we securely delete or anonymize the data.

5. Compliance with Google API Services User Data Policy

Our use of Google API Services aligns with the Google API Services User Data Policy requirements. We request only necessary permissions and provide clear and transparent disclosures about the data's access and use.

We store and process Google API Services data securely and use access controls to protect data from unauthorized access. We do not sell or sublicense Google API Services data to third parties or use it for advertising purposes.

An example of stored data is student email addresses from a Google Classroom class. Student email addresses may be stored in an execution plan for a gradebook sync and processed when they are matched to student email addresses in Blackbaud. This is done to determine which Blackbaud student to assign each Google Classroom score to in the corresponding Blackbaud gradebook.

6. Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. We will notify users of any changes by posting updates on our website and revising the "Last updated" date. Continued use of our Service following changes constitutes user acceptance of the updated policy.
